Summertime fishing at Ruby Springs is in full bloom, beginning with the epic PMD hatches we experience every June, into caddis, then hopper fishing. It's a great time to be in Montana, with warm days, cool nights, and starry skies. Of course enjoying Monte's famous cocktails and chef's superb meals are the best way to cap off any day, but somehow they're even more welcome as the sun goes down on another long Montana summer day.
Spring is in full swing here at Ruby Springs Lodge, which means things are getting really green, the wildlife is on the move, and of course the trout are back from their winter semi-slumber. We've already had some great days on the water, and no doubt those will continue.
It's pretty hard to beat fall in Montana — and all the more so when we've had plenty of water all year, and an unusuall warm and beautiful Indian summer. The fishing on our area rivers has been outstanding, as the browns start thinking about spawning and the rainbows are still thinking about eating. Even if the fishing was slow, all the wildlife, colorful cottonwoods, and clear blue skies make for a terrific excuse to be out on the water!
Even though it's just begun, already the 2014 season is looking to be an epic one. Great water conditions now will also extend well into the summer, and guests and guides alike are experiencing beautiful weather and excellent fishing on the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Madison, Ruby and more. Things should just continue to get better and better...
The spring hatches are starting up, with caddis, early brown stones, and assorted mayflies making for some early season dry fly fishing. We've been open since mid April and so glad to spend some time with so many of our return guests. With the way things are going, it's going to be a banner year for fly fishing in southwest Montana!
As many of you know, our head waiter and all-around Ruby Springs 'mascot' Monte had his hip replaced. In fact, we are still amazed and humbled by how quickly our Ruby Springs friends and guest family came together to help it happen.
Well, we're pleased to report that Monte is well on the road to recovery, and you'll be seeing his smiling face and enjoying his artfully-crafted cocktails with the start of the season. Here's to a great 2014!
